“昔日之光晕与今日意念的一闪而过的奇遇”

An ephemeral coincidence of past eminence and present impression.

《关·看》

事实是不以个人意志为转移的,但事实的选择和组合却因人而异。看法就是通过排列事实的格式和其中的寓意来传达的。艺术家关伟也正是通过此种方式来表述他个人对历史的理解。

无论在中国还是在澳洲,关伟数年来始终以朴素的文化阅读者视角关注对历史的探究。在关伟以往作品里更多是以史诗般大幅画面并通过具有象征意义的抽象造型符号对彼一时历史做寓言式的演义呈现。此次展览关伟选用他近几年创作的中国传统青花图腾纹络瓷器和意向禅意雕塑作品,并与欧洲古典宫廷家具组合在一起,进行了一次时间和空间穿越式纠缠。从展览的几组作品中不仅看到东方曼妙和西方华丽缠绵对话,也诠释出两大古老文明不期而遇的神情合一。

有位智者说过:“文化是你忘掉一切过去刻意学习过的东西之后所剩下来的”。关伟在这次展览作品中他继续去掉艺术的表象特征,还原到艺术的记录初心,并以多元化语言和器物的排列组合重新构建出个人视角里发现的世界。

Guan·Perspective

The truth is not altered by individual will, but the selection and combination of truth vary from person to person. Perspective is communicated through the format which facts are aligned in and the implications there within. It is through this method that artist Guan Wei explicates his personal interpretation of history.

Whether in China or Australia, Guan Wei continues to pay close attention to historical research using the perspective of an impartial cultural bystander. Most of Guan's past works contained allegorical depictions of history using symbolic abstract signs on epic large-format canvases. In this exhibition, Guan chooses porcelain and sculptures from recent years that contain traditional Chinese blue and white totem and Zen elements, and combines them with classic European royal furniture to create an entanglement of time and space. There is not only a dialogue between Eastern grace and Western splendor in these works, but also the coincidental meet-cute of two grand and ancient civilizations.

A wise man once said, "culture is what is left after you've forgotten all that you intentionally learned in the past." In this exhibition, Guan Wei continues to dispose of art's artificial traits, coming back to point zero to record the origin, and reorganizes multi-cultural language and utensils to reconstruct a world discovered from a personal perspective.

《关·看》

此时此刻,艺术家关伟为我们制造了一个现场,看上去曾经发生过的现场。且不去考虑这个叙事的真实性,艺术家意图把人们带进一个经过他布局的奇异地形里。古昔而久远的符码如废墟般卷尘而来,就在这些微弱幽暗的物质中,突然出现的灵光,恰好击中了今天的意念。艺术家不但是语言发现的能工巧匠,同时也是场域的摆布者。关伟将历史与今天放置在一个时光里,让他们看似是魔幻的奇遇,我们不由自主的想,在什么样的过去中我们存在过,今天现实中的我们是如何自在着。历史是不朽的语言的历史,还是偶然存在过的古老现场?我们今天的创造对于未来也不过是一个看似深邃的废弃现场?关伟一贯擅长在历史话语中考古,然后站在今天的立场去缓缓而精心的提问。所以,今天的这一场偶遇,也只是关伟在众多的褶皱中抽取一个切片,然后展开给我们看。

Guan·Perspective

This moment in time, artist Guan Wei has created for us a scene, one that looks like something had happened in it. The truth of the narrative aside, the artist tries to bring viewers into a strange landscape designed by him. Ancient symbols from the past come back like excavated ruins, among these soft and dark materials, suddenly there is light, striking perfectly on today's motif. The artist is not only an artisan at discovering language, but also is the puppeteer behind the site. Guan Wei sets history and present in the same timeframe, making them look like a magical coincidence, leading us to ponder in what kind of past we existed in, and how we are existing in today's reality. History is the history of immortal language or just an old scene that existed in the past? Our present will also seem to the future like a profound dumping ground? Guan was always good at excavating historical language and then slowly and deliberately posing questions in the present stance. Thus, today's coincidence is only a cross section from many folds, flattened for us to see.
